Polyurethane elastomers allow a high modulus, high tensile strength and high elongation.

Stress/Strain Properties of Polyurethane

Plastic materials tend to have high modulus and tensile strength properties, but low elongation.  Rubber materials tend to have high elongation but low modulus and tensile strength.  Polyurethane elastomers allow a high modulus, high tensile strength and high elongation.  This combination imparts toughness and durability to the cast urethane part.

The table below compares the stress/strain properties of castable polyurethane elastomers with those of the two most common rubber materials, Natural Rubber and Neoprene Rubber.
